Problem Statement
Healthcare providers face significant challenges in managing patient data efficiently due to fragmented systems, cumbersome paperwork, and inconsistent access to comprehensive patient histories. These issues lead to inefficiencies, potential errors, and hindered patient care. Our Electronic Health Records (EHR) product aims to address these problems by offering a seamless, secure, and integrated solution that ensures real-time access to accurate and complete patient information, enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.

User Research
The healthcare industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by technological advancements and the increasing need for efficiency, accuracy, and improved patient outcomes. Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems are at the forefront of this transformation, offering solutions to longstanding challenges in patient data management. This research outlines the critical need for EHR products, supported by data and insights from various studies and reports.
Challenges in Traditional Patient Data Management
1. Fragmentation and Inaccessibility:
- Patient data is often stored across multiple systems and physical records, making it difficult for healthcare providers to access complete and accurate information promptly.
- A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association highlighted that 78% of physicians reported difficulties in accessing patient information from other providers.

2. Inefficiencies and Administrative Burdens:
- Manual data entry and paperwork consume a significant amount of healthcare providers time, reducing the time available for patient care.
- According to the American Medical Association, physicians spend nearly 27% of their workday on administrative tasks.
3. Errors and Inconsistencies:
- Paper-based records and fragmented digital systems increase the likelihood of errors in patient information, which can lead to incorrect diagnoses and treatment plans.
- The Institute of Medicine reports that preventable medical errors are a leading cause of death, with a significant number attributed to inaccurate or incomplete patient data.
Benefits of EHR Systems
1. Improved Access to Comprehensive Patient Data:
- EHR systems provide a centralized and secure platform for storing and accessing patient records, ensuring that healthcare providers have real-time access to complete medical histories.
- A study by Health Affairs found that EHR adoption led to a 15% improvement in clinical outcomes due to enhanced data accessibility.
2. Increased Efficiency and Reduced Administrative Burden:
- Automation of administrative tasks, such as data entry and appointment scheduling, allows healthcare providers to focus more on patient care.
- The Journal of Healthcare Management reported that practices using EHR systems saw a 20% reduction in administrative workload.
3. Enhanced Accuracy and Patient Safety:
- EHR systems minimize the risk of errors by providing decision support tools, alerts for potential drug interactions, and standardized data entry protocols.
- According to the New England Journal of Medicine, hospitals with EHR systems experienced a 25% reduction in adverse drug events.
Market Demand and Adoption Trends
1. Growing Adoption of EHR Systems:
- The adoption of EHR systems has been steadily increasing, driven by government incentives, regulatory requirements, and the recognized benefits of digital health records.
- A report by Grand View Research projects the global EHR market to reach USD 30.1 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 5.4%.
2. Regulatory and Policy Support:
- Government initiatives, such as the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act in the United States, have provided significant incentives for EHR adoption.
- Compliance with regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe also necessitates secure and efficient data management solutions, further driving EHR adoption.

Surveys
As part of our quantitative research, my friend and I conducted a survey at leading hospitals in the Delhi NCR region, including Fortis, Medanta, GTB Hospital, and Aruna Asif Ali Hospital. The survey, which comprised eight questions and interviews, provided deeper insights into our user base and helped corroborate the findings from our qualitative research.
Responses Of Survey:Patient
How do you currently manage your medical records?
Have you ever had trouble accessing your medical records when needed?
Have you ever lost or had difficulty finding important medical documents?
How often do you see different healthcare providers (e.g., specialists, primary care physicians)?
